Lubbock Information
Situated about midway between Dallas and Albuquerque, legendary Lubbock is a city of about 200,000 people in far West Texas. Texas Tech University’s Lubbock enrollment is approaching 30,000 students, including the Law School and the Medical School. The university (www.ttu.edu) is located on a spacious and attractive campus featuring Spanish Colonial architecture. The conference will be held in the. Matador Room (2nd Floor) of the recently renovated Student Union.
Lubbock is actually one of the oldest continually inhabited places in North America, and those interested in archaeology may wish to visit the Lubbock Lake Landmark site just outside of town; a link is available from the Texas Tech Museum web page listed below.
In more recent times, Lubbock is known for being the birthplace of Buddy Holly and, thus, of rock and roll, and the Depot District keeps the music tradition alive, featuring many nightspots and clubs.
The Ranching Heritage Center (www.depts.ttu.edu/ranchhc/) and the TTU Museum (www.depts.ttu.edu/museumttu/) are wonderful places to spend an afternoon, while the Science Spectrum with Omnimax (www.sciencespectrum.org/) is fun for kids of all ages. Shopping at department stores and specialty shops is available at the mall (www.southplainsmall.com) on Slide Road , and more upscale shopping is available in the Kingsgate Center (www.kingsgatecenter.com/) at 82nd and Quaker Avenue.
