He earned B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1993, and a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University in 1999, supported by a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. His research and professional interests are in nonlinear structural mechanics, biomechanics, engineering education, and engineering ethics, and he is Principal Investigator for the NSF Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS) Program at UW-Milwaukee.
